This week, maintenance work has begun at the historic Alto Vista Chapel, leading to a temporary closure to visitors while the renovations are underway. Although tour buses and rental cars continue to arrive at the site, no one is permitted to enter the chapel itself during this period.
The project involves a complete renovation of the chapel’s roof, which had not undergone maintenance for several years. Due to its location in a highly vulnerable area, the roof’s edges had begun to deteriorate, prompting the decision to address the issue immediately.
While visitors are unable to enter the chapel, they are welcome to sit outside and pray in front of the structure. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this week, at which point the chapel will reopen to the public.
Additionally, plans are being made to address other aspects of the site, such as clearing overgrown vegetation and enhancing the overall appearance to ensure a pleasant experience for future visitors. These efforts aim to preserve the chapel’s beauty and maintain its significance as a cherished landmark for both locals and tourists.
