It’s National Anthem and Flag Day in Aruba!

It’s National Anthem and Flag Day in Aruba!

March 18 is all about celebrating what makes us proud to be Aruban.

Let’s take a quick trip back to 1976 when our flag was first raised, marking our independence within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Aruban flag has got three main colors: blue, red, and yellow. The blue stands for the ocean that’s all around us, and the yellow represents the sun. The red is a reminder of the hard times our ancestors went through to make Aruba what it is today. When you see those colors together, it’s like a shout-out to the awesome spirit and strength of all us Arubans.

It was also the year when we adopted our anthem, “Aruba Dushi Tera.” It’s the song that really gets our hearts pumping with love for our sweet island. The lyrics are all about how beautiful and special our island is, and how much we appreciate it.

Now, let’s talk about how we celebrate!

  • You can expect to see our streets bursting with energy and color.
  • Cars and motorcycles proudly flaunt the national flag as they cruise around town. It’s like a moving parade, with each vehicle adding to the festive atmosphere.
  • It feels like a huge party where everyone, including kids, families, and adults, is welcome to join!

But it’s not just about the party. National Anthem and Flag Day is about honoring our roots and the things that make us who we are. Families gather for picnics in the park or on the beach, enjoying local food and each other’s company. And let’s not forget the performances, dance shows, car shows and motor parade including bikers from all over the world – it’s always a highlight of the day!

And you know what? Each year, it seems like our celebrations just get bigger and better. It’s a testament to how much pride we have in calling Aruba our home sweet home.

So, here’s to another fantastic National Anthem and Flag Day – filled with love, laughter, and tons of Aruban pride! Cheers, everyone!
