Investment Details in San Nicolas Revitalization Project

During a press conference on Monday, September 2nd, Ministers Geoffrey Wever and Ursell Arends shared exciting news about the upcoming launch of the San Nicolas Revitalization project. In recent months, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, collaborating with various stakeholders, has crafted a plan to rejuvenate the heart of San Nicolas. After securing approval from the Council of Ministers for additional funding, the project is now set to proceed, with a public unveiling scheduled for early October.

The ambitious goal of this project is to eventually establish a connection between the center of San Nicolas and the waterfront. One key recommendation from the YES Summit was to link the upper and lower main streets of San Nicolas, which are currently treated as separate areas.

The first phase of the San Nicolas Revitalization Project will involve transforming the current Arubus parking area into a Sunrise Market, upgrading and modernizing the bus terminal, expanding pedestrian-friendly public spaces, and developing public areas with potential for kiosks. This will allow for the creation of terraces and other hospitality activities. Additionally, the project will focus on enhancing lighting, landscaping, and infrastructure to make the area more appealing to visitors.

This project signifies a substantial investment of over 4.3 million Florins by the Government of Aruba. The initiative will be executed in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation and Nature, which oversees the Arubus property. The establishment of the Sunrise Market presents a valuable opportunity for farmers and artisans, providing ample space to showcase local products. This is a long-awaited development that aims to diversify San Nicolas’s attractions, benefiting both tourists and locals who can enjoy the area on a regular basis. The overall vision is to breathe new life into San Nicolas and offer a unique experience for all who visit.
