Beautification Project in front of the High-Rise Hotels to be postponed until after Carnival Season 2024

Beautification Project in front of the High-Rise Hotels to be postponed until after Carnival Season 2024

The Prime Minister of Aruba, Evelyn Wever- Croes recently announced a decision to postpone the beautification project in front of the High-Rise hotels. Mrs. Wever – Croes explained that, given the approaching hurricane season and the expected heavy rainfall, it’s been decided to postpone the commencement of the road repair works in front of the High-Rise hotels until 2024, specifically after the carnival season. The entire project is anticipated to take 75 days to complete.

the Department of Public Works (Dienst Openbare Werken – DOW), which falls under the Ministry of Infrastructure, justified this decision by pointing out that during the construction of the Palm Beach roundabout, they encountered significant rainfall, causing the groundwater level to rise and adversely affecting construction progress, resulting in delays. To mitigate disruption in the High-Rise area due to ongoing construction and the risk of heavy rainfall during the peak season, the decision was made to delay the work until the following year.

The beautification project in front of the High-Rise hotels will be executed in three phases. The first phase covers a 600-meter stretch of road, including sewerage and drainage, from Riu Hotel to South Beach. The second phase, like the first, extends from South Beach to the Holiday Inn Hotel. The final phase includes a pedestrian and bicycle path, a sidewalk, and the construction of a parking lot in front of the Riu Hotel. The total project cost remains unknown to DOW as it depends on the outcome of the ongoing public tendering process. The government is also exploring contributions from organizations like AHATA and ATA, with initial indications suggesting AHATA’s interest in financing the landscaping aspect.

In anticipation of the project, DOW emphasized that one of the key challenges will be ensuring access to the hotels during the construction season. Different route adjustments will be implemented as the project progresses to ensure continued access for hotel guests and visitors.
