Phase 1B Expansion Begins
Oranjestad, Aruba — Aruba Airport Authority N V is moving confidently into the next stage of its Gateway 2030 program as work on Phase 1B continues to progress. This milestone strengthens the vision of creating a modern airport experience at Queen Beatrix International Airport that meets the expectations of todays traveler while preparing for the needs of the future.
A New Era for Aruba’s Airport
Gateway 2030 is a long term improvement program focused on expanding, modernizing, and elevating Aruba’s main point of entry. The goal is to deliver a smooth and welcoming journey for every passenger.
Phase 1A reached completion in April 2025 and introduced a spacious U S Check In Terminal designed with advanced technology and sustainable features. A new baggage handling system supports this upgrade with the ability to process up to two thousand bags per hour.
Phase 1B: More Space More Comfort More Efficiency
The start of Phase 1B brings new developments that improve the departures experience in several ways. This stage includes:
Three new gates with three boarding bridges
Three new bus gates
Larger hold rooms with additional seating
Optimized passenger circulation and operational flow
Construction has begun at Gate 8 in Building D, where the foundation of the expansion is already visible. A new bridge will soon connect Building D with the future Building E, which will house the three new gates. Walls are being built, concrete is being poured, and new steel structures are taking shape as the next chapter of the airport emerges.
Interim Chief Executive Officer James Fazio noted the importance of this progress in the long term development of the airport. He explained that Phase 1B demonstrates the airports commitment to service that meets an international standard while maintaining the warmth and hospitality Aruba is known for. He also expressed appreciation for the continued patience of the community as improvements move forward.
Looking Ahead to Phase 2
Preparation for Phase 2 has already begun and will start immediately after Phase 1B is completed. This next stage will introduce:
A new check in hall for both U S and non U S flights
New immigration and security areas along with U S Customs and Border Protection processing
A new commercial area that will include food and beverage options
