Oranjestad, Aruba. Aruba Airport Authority NV has started a major infrastructure project with the rehabilitation of Taxiway Golf, one of the most important areas of the airport’s airside operations. Taxiway Golf was first built in 1997 and is now being completely upgraded to extend its lifespan by another twenty years, keeping aircraft movements safe and efficient.
The work includes two main methods of pavement reconstruction. Full depth reconstruction involves removing and rebuilding the pavement and the layers beneath it. Mill and pave focuses on removing damaged areas and repaving them with new asphalt.
Project Phases
The project is divided into stages. The first phase is already in progress and covers the straight section of Taxiway Golf that connects the aircraft stands to the runway. The second phase will begin in September and continue for five weeks, covering the beginning of Taxiway Golf along with Taxiway Charlie. The third phase is scheduled for October and will last one week to complete the connection between Taxiway Golf and Runway eleven.
During the work, aircraft are temporarily taxiing on the runway and making a controlled turn at the end before departure. This procedure requires close coordination between Aruba Airport Authority, Air Navigation Services Aruba, and airline partners. Flight operations have continued without major disruption and only minor adjustments have been needed. The project is being carried out with the support of a local construction company and a Canadian consultancy firm that oversees daily supervision, quality control, and compliance. Pavement materials are also being tested by an independent laboratory to guarantee international standards are met.
