Every year, Susan and Steve Haggerty from Watertown, MA, organize a special fundraiser during their vacation in Aruba to help the island’s homeless dogs. Staying at La Cabana Beach Resort, the couple has been raising money to buy dog food for rescue groups and street feeders who care for stray dogs on the island.
The Haggertys’ fundraiser has grown over the years. It started when they noticed how many stray dogs were in need and began buying dog food themselves. As more vacationers at La Cabana wanted to support the cause, the fundraiser expanded. Last year, they raised $4,700, and their goal this year is $5,000.
The event takes place on December 14th at Just 4 Pet, a local pet store. Susan, Steve, and their friends, Skip and Claire Freeman, meet with rescue groups and street feeders to hand over the dog food bought with the donated funds. La Cabana has been a big supporter, helping them in many ways each year.
Anyone interested in contributing can donate, knowing that every dollar goes toward feeding homeless dogs in Aruba. The community has rallied around the cause, and people from all over the country who stay at La Cabana have generously supported their efforts.
